OPEN Yoga - These classes are open to the public, students of all levels, and provide detailed instruction, making it ideal for beginners, while also offering advanced students options to challenge themselves physically. Seated warm ups are often followed by building strength through vinyasa sequences. Balancing poses and restorative postures are also explored based upon the students who "show up." You can routinely expect sun salutations A and B, followed by postures linked with rhythmic breathing, designed to strengthen the body, increase flexibility and release tension in the mind and body. Modifications are woven into this class to support everyone in it, and to foster an inclusive community. OPEN classes are also paired with other outreach projects to foster an inclusive community.
Adaptive Yoga - These classes serve teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In these classes, students build strength, balance and a sense of community on and off the mat. Often practicing in chairs, students in Shri's adaptive yoga project learn how to get up and down to the floor with team building activities and meditation games built in. Yoga poses in these classes are modified to meet the needs of every student. ** An introductory email to Shri is required before attendance is possible: contact Heather at heather [at] shriyoga [dot] org for more information.**
Hospital Project - Held in partnership with local hospitals and run through our Shri curriculum in the field, classes in this project include our four core curriculum components building strength, flexibility and community both on and off the mat with staff present. Current partners include a female and male group from Slater Hospital.
School Project - These classes are mostly held in the field but sometimes we bring students into our studio as well before, during or after the school day. These classes are rooted in our Shri Yoga Project, 32-week curriculum. Students in different grades are guided through Shri's joyful lesson plans with teachers trained at Shri. Students learn how to deliver introductions and intentions at the start of each class followed by movement, community building and character education games and mindfulness activities.
Yoga for Educators - Open to all teachers and school administrators who need to wind down and stretch out mid-week, with an emphasis on stress reduction and release. FREE with your school ID - a great opportunity to meet educators in the area!
Yoga for Grief & Healing - Open and free to those with our partners at Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island to facilitate a safe, group setting for gentle yoga and meditation practices (in chairs and on the floor) with group activities as they align with our SHRI values and curriculum themes, all in partnership with Hope Hospice's weekly support groups. Journals and other materials provided during class. All levels welcome on any week.
Yoga for the Military – Designed to decrease anxiety and stress, and using breath work and Yoga Nidra (yoga sleep) in addition to postures, students are guided at a gradual, meditative pace, while keeping an emphasis on alignment and mindful transitions to build strength and flexibility. FREE to active military or veterans, plus one guest.
Yoga in Recovery - Designed to address specific physical and emotional stresses stored in the body, this class guides students from pose to pose at a gradual pace, keeping an emphasis on alignment and mindful transitions as students build strength and flexibility.
