Om Shri Ganeshay Namah
(*The mantra for undertaking any good and new works*)
Shri (or Shree/Sri) in Sanskrit is broadly defined as "life-affirming energy," or "that which diffuses light," radiance and abundance.
Shri's name reflects its mission: to illuminate downtown Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and neighboring communities with positive programs and activities supporting the belief that the practice of yoga and its healing effects can be accessible to everyone.
Since 2010, Shri through its studio and non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Shri Service Corps, has been the only yoga outreach studio and organization in Rhode Island, to serve adults and children with developmental and intellectual disabilities, veterans, children in schools, hospitals and shelters, incarcerated youth and men and women in recovery - every week.
By doing so, Shri has been building healthy, more balanced and compassionate communities, which to date has served more than 5,000 students, with a unique S-H-R-I curriculum, combining movement-based yoga classes with community building, mindfulness and character education components. To date, these classes have proven to reduce stress and anxiety for students while also building physical and emotional strength, flexibility, focus and balance.
The community has recognized Shri on and off the mat, and we continue to measure our impact and outcomes to best serve the growing demand for our programs.
